Double groove Alt pulley
« on: May 24, 2011, 08:29:19 pm »
Is there any known pulleys I could swap over to my truck so I could have double belts on my alternator?  My truck has, A/C and Power Steering.

The load on my alt at idle is too much for the single belt I have now.

If I can't get a double pulley I'm thinking about switching over to a full serpintine setup.   I need a new PS pump, and A/C compressor anyway.

Another question...  Whats the absolute BEST V-belt money can buy.   I want to try that before anything else.  I have a dayco belt now, and that's about the best I can find locally.

Try a google search for "double belt pulley for 10si alternator" and see if that gets ya in the ball park.
I've always liked Gates v-belts.

I have a Delco / Motorola alternator that has a double V pulley on it. You might try at a place that installs police, and fire radios.
Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Are you running a cogged belt ?  Gates cogged would be my choice.

I don't have a problem finding a double pulley for the alt itself, It's just that I need a new pulley with the extra groove for the water pump and or crank pulley.

I've also been debating...  I wonder how the setup off of an '87 and up would do me?  It had v-belts on everything but the alternator, which had its own little serpintine belt.

Right now I have a 140a Alt on there.   It does fine when the belt doesnt drag.  so right when I put a new belt on there, the volt gauge doesnt move at all anytime, but after I retighten it in a week or so, then after 3 or 4 weeks it starts slipping again.  Right now my belt is as tight as I want to go for fear or ruining the bearings in the alternator.

I forgot about gates belts.   my dad used to use only those, but they sure dont have them at any of the stores around here anymore.  I wonder why that is?  that's stupid.

The last belts I bought were from NAPA and they are made by Gates.

I see now why I couldn't find Gates belts...  Napa has them listed as NAPA brand and I usually don't buy store brand stuff.  Only way to tell online they're from gates is to rear the warranty PDF.

Very good, I'll pick some up today and see what happens.

I've always like gates or the Goodyear Gatorback's. Last I checked Autozone has Gatorbacks, but sounds like you got a winner.
