Just bought a GMC pickup yesterday. I am sure I will have some questions, so thought this might be a good place to get started. My "new" acquisition is an '84 stepside. It is amazingly solid and runs and drives like a dream. It has a transplanted 327 under the hood from a '62 Chevy. I look forward to spending time on this site and hopefully will be able to give some help as well as get some. Most of my experience is in body/paint repair and, mechanically, older Mopars.

Hope it is cooler in ND than NC! Close to 100 here, today. I really don't have a lot of info on the truck, except it is an '84 GMC which came with a 305. For whatever reason (performance probably) the 327 was dropped in. The engine was rebuilt about 30,000 miles back. It has a TH350 which is going to get a shift kit soon. The owner thinks it has a fairly high road gear in the rear end. I will probably go to a 3:42. The engine has headers, duals and Edelbrock performer intake and carb. Will probably replace this as well with a new Qjet. It is a very solid well cared for truck. I plan to put it back close to stock except for the running gear. This is the first 327 I have ever owned. I currently own two 305s, one in a G20 '95 Chevy van and the other in a '91 Olds Custom Cruiser. I had a 350 in a Malibu and loved it. I am going to research the 327 and try to determine which one it is , as HP goes. I will pull a valve cover and check the casting number on the head. Will make more pics soon.

I bought the truck in SC. The right turn signal is not working right, so I will have to fix that in order to get the NC inspection Nazis to pass it so I can get my plate. It is a solid truck. All I see is a small spot of filler in the hood where a small dent was filled. I am going to put some chrome taillights on it like came on late 50s and early 60s. I like the bolt on lights on a stepside for whatever reason. Of course, the lights in the rear fenders will be filled. Finding the right color of red will be the biggest challenge.

Thanks for all the great welcomes! I am a member on a few other sites, but the folks here seem to be the friendliest! Looking forward to seeing what all is on here. As mentioned before, I have worked on small block Mopars for so long that I know mostly what will fit what and what parts will interchange, but Chevys are kinda new and it will take a while to re-learn.
