Radio Antenna
« on: July 18, 2011, 08:46:03 pm »
So i just put a new radio in my 85 chevy and new speakers in the dash, and noticed the stations dont come in very well. So of course that truck has the antenna in the windshield, should i get a universal one and use that instead. Also when wiring it up i noticed on the diagram for he radio they have a power antenna wire. but i dont think the truck has that, or is that my problem it does and i didnt hook it up

The blue power antenna wire on all aftermarket radios is just omitted and has no effect on the reception.  Windshield installed antennas have never been good on any of my trucks except one.  A popular option is getting a stock fender mounted one from a 88-91 Suburban or Blazer from a pick and pull, measure the mounting hole and put it in yours...

the antenna wire sends a signal to a telescopic antenna's motor to raise or lower it or you can hook it up to a amp to tell the amp to turn on or off. i think with the windshield antennas they will sometimes just loose connection at the base of the windshield. i opted  for something that looks better to me than a fender mounted antenna

got a adapter for the cb antenna and a cord for it and i pick up lots of stations now and it dont look as sissy as a fender one lol
