For those of you who appreciate older cars

     I had one of these when I was 17.  It was my 5 vehicle (I started building and selling cars when I was 15).  I always loved driving this car, it was fun and enjoyable.
     Picked it up Sunday night on a trade, wife does not understand my enjoyment about the car or how fun it is to drive, but she does say it would be nice to have fixed up and take to car shows.  So when I am done with my truck I will slowly start on this car.
     1967 Mercury Cougar, 289 - 4v engine (225 hp 4 barrel), C4 transmission, ALL ORIGINAL CAR (except rims, which I have the originals with the hub caps), floor column shifter (the one I had was a steering column shifter). 
     I still love the fold up headlight covers on these cars and the rear blinkers that move in a 3 blink pattern from the inside to the outside.  Man I am having fun driving this car.  Anyway hope you enjoy the pics, this is all I snapped so far.

If I'm not mistaken, isn't this the car that has the way cool turn signals in the back that progressively light up as the signal flashes?

yeah firefighter, those Cougars have the sequential turn signals, similar to some of the new mustangs.
Nice Cougar, very similar to my '68 mustang I had in High School--loved driving that car.

Awesome! Good friend of mine has a 67 Mustang with a 289 and its a pretty peppy motor. Nice score.

Very nice... Put the stock hubcaps back on and get those wheel in the wheel wells where they belong and you will be set...  A 4 speed would be more fun... just saying...  A guy I knew when I lived in Texas had one with a 4 speed, and it was a ball to ride in.  Those 289 revved quickly and the car is fairly light...

I am no Ford man, but those cars have always caught my eye. The styling is spot on. They are in a class with few others, like 57 chevy's there is no other like them as far as pure sex apeal if there is such a thing for a car.
A kid a couple years ahead of me in school had a 68 Cougar. Paint, and interior was a little rough, but in decent shape over all. We did some crusing in that car. His had a Cleavland in it with a C6.

     Thanks everyone, it does bring back memories.  I have only had 3 cars in my life that I have enjoyed driving.  A 84 Audi cs200 special with a straight 5 cylinder engine, 71 Chevelle Malibu with a 350 and auto trans, and my 67 Cougar.  Other wise I have enjoyed trucks more.
     It is nice to be able to drive again and enjoy it, that is why I go through so many vehicles, to me driving should be fun, other wise I could ride mass transit and let someone else drive.

Nice whip!  My dad had a 68 Cougar. I still remember the sequential rear turn signals.  They were so unique then and still are now.  Enjoy it!

For some reason, cougars don't command big money;  There was a restored 70 on Barett-Jackson yesterday that could only bring in 14K.   That being said, i think this is an example of good styling.


2) Mercury discontinued as of last yr i think?   What do feel about that?

     My wife's car is actually a Mercury Sable LS sedan.  It is a very good car, not what she wanted, but she has a lead foot and likes to go fast, so tickets forced her to get this for now.  It has a been a very reliable car.  I do not like the new body styles or need of computers to fix these cars.
     That being said, I think older cars can hold their value better than newer throw away cars.  I like the fact that I can keep an older car on the road also. 
     As far as the Cougar not being as popular as others like mustangs, fits my personality perfect.  I like to be different than the crowd, so having a Cougar and being the only one around here that has one is right up my alley.  I hate to drive what everyone else is driving.
