Power steering pump brackets
« on: May 08, 2012, 04:23:13 pm »
Ok so my son blew up his 86 C10 4X4 witha 305. I picked up a 350 with the casting number that has it as a 4 bolt main years 1969-75. I got it installed found I have to buy headers but my big issue is the power steering pump mounting. I believe that the wrong brackets have been installed at one time. The truck had A/C but the compressor is gone. I searched the threads and found a pic of a bracket. It looks nothing like mine. I can't get my MB on my pics down to KB so I can send an email if you want just let me know.

Is pulling the PS bracket off of the 305 still an option?  Or is that the one that doesn't fit?

Why do you have to get headers? Dip stick tube? You can also use the older cast iron manifolds.
What casting numbers did you use to determin 4 bolt main?

You should be using the entire accessory drives / pulleys of the motor that came out of the truck. All the brackets should bolt right to the older two piece rear main seal motor. For the power steering bracket you will need to fabricate a spacer to go between the front manifold bolt hole, and the bracket with headers. A piece of black iron pipe works well for this. The rest of the bracket bolts to the front of the head, and the water pump for the pivot bolt. The water pump should have a boss about 2" thick. The bracket goes over this both in front, and behind it. Long bolt goes through the bracket, through the water pump boss, and threads into the back side of the bracket that has a welded nut. That is the pivot point for belt adjustment.
