That looks like one sweet ride buddy! It's like having the best of both worlds.

I'm working on an 82 short bed myself and since I've got it I've wondered several times about taking plate steel and cutting it down to weld the frame up and box it in to give it more rigidity but I think it may be more headache than its worth.

Thanks magic.  Yeah it's pretty much an ok truck that runs and drives like a new one.

That's what I am going to do with the frame this brown truck came off of and building up and swap my cummins and 86 over onto it.  It might be a little work but its worth is.  I am going to put newer leafs on the rear so it will ride better.

I did get the brakes bled tonight and took it around the block and everything went great. No problems at all. I still have a little bit of wiring to do and clean up the wires and start putting it all back together.

After a few hours of working on it today I managed to get a gauge cluster put together. I ended up cutting out the 82 cluster for the elec speedo head and put it and all the 91 gauges in there with led bulbs. Then had to run wires for power and ground for the speedo and vss. Also mounted the dlc and wired it in. Spent most of the time fixing the blower motor. Ground was no good on motor, high speed relay was shorted to ground, and the fan speed switch contacts were corroded so much thy wouldn't make contact, so that was a bunch of fun fixing. After all that I drove it around the block again and the speedo works and seems to be halfway accurate, cel works, and plugged in my scanner and that works too.  Only wiring left to do is for the a/c then I can tidy up my wad of wires.
My helper wasn't much help

The dash is all finished now. All the stock gauges work. I put a new dash pad on it and swapped a new style steering wheel

Also got the air conditioning wired up and working.

I think it still needs another can of freon but 58 isn't too bad for idling in a garage with just the fans on

Heater works too

Ingot some more work done on the truck. It's really close to being finished. All of the wiring under the hood is all done and loomed and taped up permanently. After I did all that I realized the hood hinge folds down right where I had the fusebox mounted so that had to be moved. Luckily the wiring was long enough to mount it on the firewall so that didn't turn out too bad. I also got the remote start mounted and installed. I still have to wire up the relays for the door lock actuators. Last thing I got accomplished is taking the stock 2" blocks out of the rear so it will set level. I think it looks a lot better that way

Thanks man. It's actually going back together petty easy so far. Tonight I got the relays for the door locks built and hooked up. Got my junkyard door jamb wire grommets installed then hung the doors and mounted the actuators and ran the wires and now I have keyless entry and remote start.

Ill probably hold off on the power windows for a while.  I want this finished soon but I do have the parts so it will get them eventually.

Got the seat cover put on tonight. That was a pain trying to hold it on there and tie all those dang strings to the seat frame but it didn't turn out too bad. Also put on the underhood light off a 90s truck. I wired it to a hood switch too so it will be on with the good open.

Great project!
Real trucks are built, not bought Build thread

Give me a long enough lever and a place to stand, and I shall move the earth or break this bolt...Whatever, just hold my beer!

More on my truck tomorrow hopefully.  I'm in the middle of mounting the bumpers and finishing up a few little things and it should be done.

Got some used emblems for $8 shipped off fleabay and plasti dipped them and peeled off the letters.  Didn't turn out too bad I don't think.

Figured I'd share the pic of my c20 and blazer at a truck photo shoot last week. They are going to use it for the background on their catalogs. They said they might even want my c20 for the main truck for the cover so we'll see how that goes.  It's pretty cool either way
