Hecho En Mexico
« on: December 01, 2012, 01:39:53 pm »
Hello Everyone

I was doing some SB shopping lately with friends and came face to face with a DOZEN of blocks at a local Auction.
They were all 350s but one was a 305 "Hecho En Mexico" blocks. I have understood that it is low HP engine, but we couldn't resist the price ( especially that all were still in boxes !! )

I have some Qs that I hope to find answers for .. from you guys ..
1. Are these blocks good for an off-road truck ?
2- Some of 'em were equipped with different cast mark heads !! is this Normal?

3- Can anyone help with Suffix Codes ? One reads ( M1110 3VP ) the 2nd ( VO810 USA ) !!

Thanks

http://www.nastyz28.com/gm-chevy-codes/chevy-engine-codes-suffix-9.php is the resource I turn to.  The second "USA" is a 1983 350 while the first "VP" is not on that listing.

It's not uncommon to find mismatched reman parts in Mexican engines. I've seen different bore sizes sleeves, mismatched head castings you name it.

What I have heard is the Mexico rebuilders typically just fixed what was needed and threw it together.  If it were me I would check em out internally to see.  Worth the price of a gasket set for peace of mind.

I agree with both of these statements.  It does not mean you got bad engines, but before you decide to build one you need to check and make sure all the components are the same.

The Mexican blocks are not recomended for performance but good for a normal replacement. An easy way to tell if ther're Mexican rebuilds is to take the pan off and you will see letters stamped on the gasket surface on the block. They did this to know what piston rod assembly went into whatever goofed up piston bore or crank sizing issues. The heads could have diffrent casting numbers but the combustion chambers will still match.

Even if they're mexicans there still worth a thousand a pieace or more.  Great find...

I've only personally seen one engine that had two completely different heads. I'm not sure if it was a goof or what but I would say that is not the norm.
