New from AZ, K20 w/ Pics
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:00:07 pm »
Hello all.  I've been trolling this forum for the past few weeks, been quite helpful already.  I'm from Gilbert AZ, just outside Phoenix.  This '75 K20 was given to me by an 80 year old man who was the grandfather of my neighbor.  He was the second owner, owned the truck for 30+ years.  He couldn't get it to pass AZ emissions due to his mobility (age related) and the mobile home park he was living in was threatening to tow it since he couldn't register it due to our emission laws.  So, long story short I got the truck for free. :D

Truck had sat for 3 years and after draining the carb and one of the tanks, fired right up and I drove it 40 miles home that night.  I rebuilt the carb, fixed all of the vacuum leaks and it's running pretty dang good now.  I put a 6" lift on it and some 35's, Pro-Comp shocks, rebuilt the steering linkage, replaced inner/outer bearings and inspected the brakes.  I also replaced the original locking hubs with a new set of Warn locking hubs.

After a good scrub the interior cleaned up good.  Most of the gauges don't work and the parking brake cables were cut some time ago.  It's a good truck and I'm excited to get it straightened out/painted.  Thanks for all of the information already contained within this site!

Plans are to keep it as original looking as possible (minus the lift of course).  I put a cheesy eBay billet grill in while I hunt down a nice original.  I'd like a nice set of chrome bumpers to replace the white ones and also some better looking side mirrors.  Ideas?

It sure did.  Minimal surface rust, nothing that penetrates all the way through.  Definitely needs alot of minor work but is for the most part mechanically sound.

Welcome from Alaska.

I like the all-white look including the white bumpers and trim.  If you are going with chrome bumpers also go with the same style stainless mirrors that were available back then.  Alternatively, the sport mirrors look really good on these old trucks.   IMHO, The big "paddle" mirrors look out of place on the round body style.  Hard to tell but does the seat have a cover over it or has it been reupholstered?

Definitely will be watching your progress.

Thanks I have the same thoughts on the mirrors, just need to track a set down. Seat is a cover for now but I have a local guy that's going to reupholster the bench in the same pattern for $300. Appreciate the kind words.

Appreciate the head's up, I'll be there in June then.  I got the A/C working yesterday (huge victory for me since I was about to pull everything out).  I'm on the hunt for nice OEM front/rear bumpers now, maybe I'll be able to find them there.
