2 6"x9" and a 12" Sub enough?
« on: May 18, 2014, 07:50:54 pm »
So, I've decided I want to go the head unit way, since this truck that I'm looking at now has the stuff to mount an aftermarket head unit in the stock spot. (I have a Dremel tool and plenty of patience too).

Anyways, how does 2 6" x 9" speakers with the cab corner mounts, and a 12" sub sound to all of you? I would be getting sound deadener, so the truck won't sound like a maraca. LOL

And I'm not smart with the amp stuff, I just "know what I think I want". if someone could give me an idea of a good amp to go for on it, that would be MUCH appreciated.

Alpine SPE-6090 6x9 (pair)
Peak - 300 watts each/600 pair
RMS - 75 watts each/150 pair

And this is the sub. It has no information on it, though I believe it's an R2SD4-12

Some people say you add the total RMS of everything and get an amp around what that number is.

And what style amp would be good for this? (Monoblock, 2 channel, 4 channel, etc...)

Thanks!

To me I like a surround sound, get some high's in the dash or overhead. Kick panel speakers or door speakers, boxes behind the seat or where you are putting the 6X9"s and a sub

So like a speaker in the dash, and the kick panel speakers?

But what kind of amp would I need for all this? That's the big question.

To be honest, 2 full size 10"s will sound a whole lot better than 1 low profile 12".

And as far as wiring them all on the same amp, don't. For the most part and decent head unit will drive 6x9s and if not, get component 6x9s that come with their own little amps.

Subs generally get their own amp.

I'm also 6'3", so I would prefer to have my bench seat as far back as possible. So I'm not hugging the steering wheel.

Okay, so I talked to a buddy of mine who has a set of MTX Terminator Subs, and an amp. So I'd just have to get a box, and the wiring to hook up the subs. My question for this is, with the two 6"x9" corner mounts in an 81-87 truck (or the whole 73-87 sweep) in place, how many inches is between them on the rear of the cab? There's a box on Amazon for like $50 and the bottom that is something like 7 3/4", and top being 5 1/2"

http://www.amazon.com/Subwoofer-Regular-Standard-Speaker-Enclosure/dp/B00IFED064/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1400512450&sr=8-10&keywords=2+12+truck+box

I'm not too worried about moving the seat up that much to allow them to be back there. I'm just worried about the length of the box being a problem on fitment. I don't want to cut open my doors to mount them, and I don't know if there's kick panels for my year of truck, due to the hood release being down there. I'll have two speakers in the dashboard as well, but those are already figured out. it's behind the seat I don't know about.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
