I got an 81 shortbox fleetside w/ a 355 forged bottom end and crane energy max cam. I got double hump heads w/ 2.02/1.60 heads. Im running an elelbrock rpm air-gap intake and a holley 750. An accel distriutor/supercoil/8.5wires/plugs. A TH400 w/ transpak and 2,000 stall converter. A 12 bolt w/ 3.42 gears and run slicks when I drag. My best ever was a 13.24 in the 1/4 mile. If i could cut some weight and add some bottle the mid 12s coud be very easy..

My 85' Blazer 4x4 ran a 16.4 @ 91 mph. It has a 355 w/performer and a stage2 jet quadrajet, 1 5/8 dynomax headers a y-pipe a stock catalytic converter to a 2.5 dual. 31x10.5 bfg's wieghs in at about 5k and the tranny needs to be rebuilt. 0-60 is about 8 seconds. Pretty far from the stock blazer w/ a 305 which ran a 19.8 @ 74 mph.

My best in the 1/8 was an 11.1@59mph with a 2.1 60' time. This is on a bone stock 78 4x4 long bed with a 350, TH350, 2 barrel, gagging like heck, and a good foot atop the gas pedal

1978 chevy 1/2 ton, 355 w/vortec heads, 9.4-1 compression, performer rpm vortec intake, 600 edelbrock carb, XE268 cam and kit, summit hi-po HEI recurved, 1 5/8" headers, dual 2 1/4" exhaust w/terminator mufflers, 2000 stall B&M convertor (flashes 2100), 3.08 gears, 4500 pounds empty. Ran a best of 15.24@97.30. Too much cam and intake for the gears and weight...it is pretty slow out of the hole and then pulls hard above 2500 rpm's (as seen by the mph). I will be switching to a regular performer vortec intake and a bit smaller cam soon...hope to see some 14.5's with the added torque. The 1st engine I built for this truck used the same short block, with lightly ported 882's, weiand 8004, 266 cam dynamics cam, and a stock convertor. It ran 16.06@89.45 burning the tires 40' out of the hole.

hot78- your lossing a lot of power going from a RPM to normal performer intake. The only time a RPM makes less torque and HP then the performer is below 1500rpm. Even a stock convertor flashes above 1500rpm, so you will get NO improvment. Just a little FYI for a vortec head lover :P

B&S, I thought I seen you over on the camaro or chevelle board. Yes, I do love them vortecs...enough that I bought another set to use on the 388 I am building for my nova. But don't tell me about the rpm being better than the performer above 1500 rpms...I already bought a performer last year
I am going to use the rpm on the 388 for now (super vic vortec won't fit under the stock hood...cowl induction will be coming later). I also have a 650 spread bore holley to go on the performer for the truck. The main reason for the smaller intake and carb (I have a 750 on it now) is because I will be installing a smaller cam too and hope to get high 'teens mileage out of it as I will be doing a lot of towing this summer. The XE268 is definately too big for max performance with 4500 pounds and 3.08 gears...and it really needs a 2500 stall convertor, but it is still fun to drive.

we took our "new" car out for the first time to a regional NHRA top sportsman event this weekend. We qualified the car even WITH the smallest motor package there at a 7.42 @183mph. Saturday's weather was somewhat better than yesterdays and we guessed very badly. Went out first round with a .59 @ 176. Oh well, we felt good just getting in the show against some of those guys and we didn't break a thing all weekend. To top it off we won best engineered of the event against some of the best in the nation. Oh, it's a 99 firebird(jerry bickle built) with a "smaller than last year" 565 meriln/brodix combo. Hope to run better at the next event. Man, the nhra is SO much better organized than the ihra stuff we've been doing. I don't think we'll go back now!!! Thanks to Montgomery Motorsports Park for a nice event even with the threat of rain and 500 cars to deal with.
