Sputter on acceleration.

New to the forum and just picked up a 1985 c10. It had a rebuilt 350 in it. When I first accelerate it sputters but then takes off fine. And after I get past initial takeoff it runs just fine. I've checked the carburetor for vacuum leaks and set timimg, not sure if I went high enough. I set it at 8° and it sounded well. Anything else I should check? Thanks in advance.

Move the vacuum advance (has the 85 got one?) from ported (timed) vacuum to manifold vacuum.

You can set the timing higher, 12* BTDC at least, probably 16* BTDC.  If it pings when loaded (up a steep hill from a stop, for example), then back off two degrees.

are you setting the timing with the vacuum advance disconnected AND capped off?
