Rear Upper Shock Mounts 88-98 Trucks
« on: November 12, 2014, 01:49:39 pm »
I had a upper shock mount go on the rear passenger side of my 96 K1500. I bought a new one online. It has four bolt holes, 2 for the bottom of the frame and another 2 for the top of the frame. I removed the old broken mount and it only was bolted at the top of the frame and was welded to the bottom of the frame. I have never had this generation GM truck before and both the rear upper mounts are like this on this truck. Bolts were not original as they were SS. Mount wasn't that rusted either.

I will be installing it with just the bolts, but should I bother having it welded to the frame? It will be a pain as the frame is coated in POR15.

I have never bought one for these style trucks. I just fabricate them.

i wouldnt weld it, bolts will hold it just fine. just as long as you bolt the top and bottom to the frame it will be strong enough

I wish my fabrication skills were good enough for that  :)

Yeah Irish thats my thought too. Just was checking to see if they came welded on from the factory or not.

Don't really see the factory welding too much.
