New to Chevy - Chilliwack BC
« on: January 05, 2015, 10:44:50 pm »
Greetings Folks. After years of driving Toyota's I finally broke down and bought a Chevy.

I bought a project truck and I'm looking forward to cheap parts and V8's.

I'll plan on documenting my work on this thing at http://myuglytruck.wordpress.com/

Can anyone confirm for me that this is a K20? It's a 1980 3/4 ton "Camper Special".

I look forward to learning from y'all.

Thanks,

Yeah, the seat looks hideous, but it's actually clean and dry, it's just worn really poorly. I want to replace it with a bench that has a fold down console, and after I address the windshield leak I'll re-upholster the whole truck.

Nice truck! That is a K 20 as FlatBlack mentioned. GM used C & K to identify 2 wheel drive from 4 wheel drive. C is 2wd, C10, C20 and C30. K is 4wd, K5, K10, K20, K30. Notice there is a K5 but no C5, GM did not produce a C5 truck during this time and with this body style.

Also, C/K10 is a 1/2 ton, C/K20 is a 3/4 ton and C/K30 is a 1 ton. 10s, 20s could be a pick up or suburban, 30s where pick ups only (unless there's a 1 ton suburban out there I don't know about but I don't think I've ever seen one) and the K5 was the Blazer.

If you have any questions about the Camper Special parts let me know, I have a Camper Special and I love mine, very similar to your, interior color, trim, options, I have most of the same as you do. Love how mostly original it is.

Nice, Thanks for taking it for the team. I was just up at my acreage in Quesnel last week though, so I got my share up there.

There is something truly nasty about seeing what the general public does inside there cars, crud, trash, tissues, stuff you don't want mention or know what it is, bodily fluids. I work at a Chevy dealer and you would be amazed at how disgusting and vile and gag - inducing some people's cars are. I feel ya 100% FlatBlack. Makes me cringe.

I wish I knew how to detail cars the way the pro's do it. I'm sure they've got tools I've never heard of before.

Our detailers do amazing work with a vacuum, lots of clean rags, and a power washer.  Aside from the electric buffing wheels, most of the cool is in the chemicals. Cleaners, degreasers, shiners, and special stuff for individual fabrics and materials.

believe it or not, you can do magic with a bunch of clean rags, ammonia, dawn dish soap, hot water, and a shop vac. well thats for interiors anyway
