yeah i dont like it either, but everyone has their own taste or needs. everyone has their own opinions and if we all only went for the same thing then all our trucks would be the same trucks, to each their own

Of course but there are those of us who truly appreciate the beauty in these trucks and it is disheartening to see them destroyed one by one. For me personally I would find a 73-87 bed. You'll be glad you did

I can understand the temptation.  Those 88-98 boxes are a dime a dozen where I'm from.  Still I'll keep my rusted out box until I can get my hands on a proper one.

Good idea. I was lucky enough to find a decent 73 bed for my 73 to eleminate the 80 something bed that some idiot before put on it. Needs a few holes filled but at least it doesn't have dents and both areas before the wheel wells rolled up. Some monkey probably high centered this "donor bed". Oh and it had a 80s GMC tailgate, so found a proper early 70's tailgate, also needs trim holes filled and both bed and gate need painted. Actually the whole truck needs painted....twice.

Hey!  If I could've found a decent '73-'87 short bed, I wouldn't have taken this sacrilegious step of putting on an '88 stepside.  I get lots of double takes and compliments however.  I even priced shipping out a bed from AZ.  As it is, I bought OEM doors from AZ to replace aftermarket doors put on by the PO.  Turns out they were rust free but creased and twisted so badly I kept the aftermarket and added insulation. Maybe some day I will break down and buy new panels to build an original bed.
