Wanting to die when cold wet only
« on: February 28, 2015, 12:25:58 pm »
I am stumped on why my 75 c10 sometimes wants to die when its raining or driving in snow. I have a carter 4070 electric fuel pump mounted under bed and fairly low. I am wondering if it could be shorting out? Anyone else ever experience this happening?

wanting to die sounds like spark plug wires breaking down under wet conditions to me.

Yeah, me too.  What do your plug wires look like?  How old are they?  New wires is a periodic maintenance item; they're not permanent.  I like these.  About twice what others cost, but I found a lot of posts on the net like, "If you didn't want to spring for the cost of Taylor wires, what would you buy instead?"  So I bought the Taylors.  A guy saw them at cruise-in, and said "I used to mechanic a bunch of dirt track racers, and that's all we used."  Note these are for SBC.

cracked distributor cap? next time spray it with some wd 40 it will displace the water and if it is cracked you wont have a problem or spray some wires it should have the same effect

The one downfall to the 73-80 hoods is the vents. It allows moisture to drip or get directly onto areas like the distributor and junction block for power.

If your distributor is bad or plug wires are bad and water is getting into these places it'll misfire and run like poo very easily.

COOL thank so much fellas for the replies. I havnt figured out the problem yet but i'll be looking into it soon. For now its on to the next task. I am looking for a truck topper for my 75 shortbed. Anyone know of models made I need to be searching for or would you have exact measurements? I know I can measure my bed but not exactly sure the proper way. thanks
