So what classifes c10,c20,c30, v10 and such

So I'm pretty sure that C is 2wd and K is 4wd, and i know that 10 is 1/2 ton and 20 is 3/4 ton and 30 being 1 ton but place like napa classify my blazer as a v10 (87 blazer) why is it different?

In 1987 GM in preparation to the new body style in 1988 changed the C to a R and the K to a V.  The square bodies continued in the Crew Cab, Suburban, and Blazer till 1991

Technically C denotes 2wd while a K denotes 4wd.

But Chevy used for the longest time the 10/20/30 scheme while GMC used the 1500/2500/3500 scheme.

Its a mess with the naming scheme lol.

most think the 10/20/30 or ½ton / ¾ton / 1 ton relates to the carrying capacity of the truck (GVWR). which is true to a point but there are many GVWR in each class for example a ½ ton (10 or 1500) could have a 4,900 lbs,  5,300 lbs, 5,400 lbs, 5,600 lbs, 6,000 lbs, 6,050 lbs and 6,200 lbs as their GVWR. ½ of a ton = 1,000 lbs so in thinking the series relates to what the truck can haul would mean a c10 with a curb weight of 4000 lbs could haul ½ ton and still be legal.

but a c10 truck with the appropriate brakes, springs and tires (would boost the curb weight to about 4150 lbs could haul 1 ton and still be legal. now lets say you have a low gvwr ¾ ton of 6400 lbs, the curb weight is slightly higher of 4400 lbs so you can only haul 1975 lbs and be legal. so this ¾ ton can haul less (legaly) than the ½ ton with a gvwr of 6200

R/V replaced C/K, but only in 3/4 ton and higher in pickups, and all blazers and suburbans.  in 1988 new C/K style trucks were only half ton pickups.  everything else was old body style until 1991 model year.
