hood
« on: September 01, 2003, 06:25:00 am »

Does anyone have any information on how to re-alien a hood which was not marked before it was taken off? Now that it's back on the truck it jams and won't pop up when hood latch is pulled. I really hate prying it up eventhough the truck needs paint anyway it still scratches motor compartment. My son and friend have learned there lesson but whats done is done. Do I have to keep playing with the hood until it"s right or does someone know some tricks of the trade to make it a little easier.

 thanks for any help

You will have to keep mesing with it until you get it. If the space between the fenders and hood are close to equal and the same gap all the way from one end to the other are the same , it is probably a front to back isue. Meaning the whole hood needs to slide the same distance on both sides. Also the leading edge of the hood should be flush with the front of the fenders. If you still have probs. you might be able to move the latch a little. When it is being closed look up under and see if you can see the latch as it cayches the hood this might give a clue as to which way to go.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

I agree you just have to keep messing with it.  Is it a factory hood? You might have more trouble that usual if it is a repo. If you need more movement. Try putting a mark around the hinges for a reference. Then take off the hinges and use a round file (Chainsaw file works good) and make the slots larger. You can then measure from the mark to see how far it is on each side. You can also make the bracket go farther down on the fender so the hood will go down (if this is also a problem). Sometimes it is a major pain in the ass. I though about putting some of those hood clips on mine. I think it might look good too.  Also the bracket with the round pin can be filed so it will move farther over.

Good Luck

Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions guys.
Between working later and rain,  I haven't been able to mess with the hood but I'll keep trying.
