HORN REPAIR KIT

Does anyone know where I could find a horn repair kit for my 1984 K20? I'm finding them for other vehicles but not the 73-87 chevy trucks. I'm looking for all of the parts under the horn cap. The big spring, etc.

theres not really a spring for the horn, you have one for the locking plate under the steering wheel. take a picture

If you have an after-market steering wheel's horn assembly like Grant, then go to the website for the spring or horn assembly. Otherwise, the factory steering wheel doesn't have a spring and would better off buying a used steering assembly or after-market steering wheel.

Looking at the image you posted, all of the parts appear to be there.  Why don't you tell us what you are trying to accomplish.  Is it that the horn doesn't sound?

Hmmmm...if all of the correct parts are there, now I'm thinking it may have been assembled wrong. I just purchased this truck. The problem I have is the horn cap does not push in and the horn does not sound. The horn cap is "bottomed out" and stays in the pushed in position. Does anyone know where there may be a diagram or picture showing how all of these parts should be assembled?

Are you missing the horn contact spring plate (imaged below) between the steering wheel and the horn button cup?  The plate is an obsolete part and may need to be procured from a salvage yard.  Occasionally the spring plate can located new at an exorbitant price.  Virtually all Saginaw steering columns use the same spring plate, so don't restrict yourself to just Chevy and GMC. 

The spring plate serves as the electrical contact between the horn relay circuit and steering shaft (ground).  It also holds the horn button in the "up" position.  I suspect that someone also removed the 3-prong horn relay and/or the horns.

Found a new one for a sane price at Napa (P/N: NOE 7352951).  Of course, you'll need to verify the fit in your column.

Got the part ordered. I'm not out much if it doesn't fit. Will you look at the pin below and see if it is installed correctly?

Looks right.  If you ground that spring-loaded pin with a screwdriver, the horn relay should click and the horn should sound.  If it doesn't, you need to break out your test light and start checking.

Clean up that narrow mantle just below the steering shaft nut, so that it's nice and shiny - it is the ground contact for the spring plate.
