noob from downunder after 78 dually engine number help

you can also use the casted numbers on your passengers side of the block right above where the trans bolts to the engine. on our trucks in the states its on the drivers side but your should be the passengers side. these numbers wont tell you much just the year, size and what the engine came in (car or truck or both). but that what it "should" of came in or size. if you really want to know you have to use the numbers that are stamped in

ok just an update
went to rego office and they have confirmed that engine no 18z155932 is definitely NOT on there records as current engine number, and the actual number I need has 8 characters in total being a combination of letters and numbers
which is a pain in the bum but also good because it means the engine in truck is probably the correct one that it was last registered with
so will look again for an engine number and also get casting numbers and go from there and anymore advice to find this number still very much appreciated

well the number could also be between the engine and trans. call the original owner if you can

long story but have given up on last owner of vehicle for any help
are you saying there is another location on the block that will have the full engine number irish as I had another look before of where number should be behind alternator but theres nothing there
possibly machined out when previous work done to block?
