Distributor cap shocked me I just replaced it

They will do that if you touch a plug wire while it's running or if you touch a spot that is cracked and it arcs thru the plastic. They make special electrical shock insulated pliers for grabbing the plug wires while running.

are you saying you replaced your old distributor cap and the new one shocked you
or are you saying the new one shocked you?
if the new one just shocked you make sure your wires arnt damaged like ltz was saying if they dont appear to be damaged then replace the cap. i think i been shocked before when i has a plug wire off the plug and it came though the wire cause it had no wheres else to go

I've been shocked a number of times, it gets your attention pretty quick. It is possible to get shocked from a cap and wires that are perfectly good. Like Irish said, if it's got no where but thru your hand, that's where it's gonna go. Electricity uses the path of least resistance to ground, often times that is thru our body.

Turn distributor from the body, not the cap when engine is running.

In all my years I've never been zapped by my trucks electrical while running.

Mind you I did get zapped by a lawn mower when my dad told me to yank the lead off the spark plug.. That hurt.

Yeah, i've gotten it from the lawn mower because the mechanism to shut the engine off was broken.

It only takes 3000 volts to jump an inch so any coil can get you if you aren't careful. I was being really stubborn one night chasing a miss fire andso I decided to pop the wires off the cap until the idle didn't change. After getting 12 times and only being on cylindern 5 I decided to use the old spray bottle trick...works like a charm. No.5 wire was melted to the header.
