I'm cleaning up the floor of my 87 R10 to get the surface rust off.
Not all of the floor is bad, so do I need to redo the ENTIRE floor or can I get away with just re-doing the bad areas? My bench seat is still in.
The bad areas are not rusted through- just needed scraped and cleaned with a wire wheel.There are some pot marks.
1. What kind of rust preventiing primer can I use ? Spray or brush?  
2. What kind of  paint?  The original color is that medium blue you see all the time.

The truck is a Scottsdale - no carpet. I'll pro'lly leave it like that and reinstall the rubber floor over some new insulation.I'm not trying to make it a show truck- just a nice decent ride.

My first recommendation would be to sand blast the rust, but if you not doing a resto it is difficult to blast and not make a huge mess inside the cab. Wire brush and or grind the rust as best you can. Use some sort of rust converter there are a bunch of brands out there. Something that converts the rust to an iron oxide. Most of them are two part, one for prep and one for converting. They usually rinse clean with water, let dry, then prime with a self etching rust inhibitive primer, and top coat. If you top coat will be paint just a good rust stop type paint. Or you could put a coat of Herculiner or Bondo brand roll on bed liner. These products are not great in the bed as they have no UV protection but inside under a mat they work well.

Well,I did the floor and it looked nice. Too nice, in fact. The paint wasn't a good match to the rest of the interior. So I sanded down the dash and sprayed it. I couldn't believe how nice it turned out. Then I looked up at the roof and now I gotta do that to match the rest of the interior I just painted.
I should have known this was going to happen.  
I think I'm going to have to wait for warmer weather to finish. I knew I should have put up that outbuilding.
