One wire alternator
« on: October 18, 2015, 08:14:26 am »
I have a 84 C10 that i'm wanting to convert to a one wire alternator. How do I go about it? And will my stock volt gauge still work? Detail would be much appreciated. Thanks

i took my alt to a shop where he made it one wire and made it excite at a few hundred rpms. he plugged the hole for the connection so it only had the main power wire on it and my gauge still worked fine. think it cost $60 to make it a one wire. im not sure what he did. but im interested in finding out

Thanks Irish for the reply back.. I should have made myself more clearer, sorry I didn't.. I have a 100 amp alt that is made for a one wire set up..  So i was needing to know how it would be wired to keep battery charged.. I finally found a video on youtube saying to run  a 10 gauge wire from the back of the alt to the positive on battery or to the positive on starter.. But it doesn't say if the factory volt gauge will still work or not

ahh yeah it should work and run the 10 ga like you saw in the video and you will be good. did you do the one wire alt yourself or someone else?
