LQ4 and what manual transmission?
« on: October 19, 2015, 06:11:42 pm »
I'm wanting to get a LQ4 for my 86 C10 stepside 2wd and also put a manual transmission behind it. But I'm not sure what transmission to get. I've read things on different forums of what will fit and what won't fit and what to get to make certain ones fit. I know the T56 could fit but they are pretty pricey and I know you can make the old school Chevy 4 speeds fit as well with some modifications. But is there anything else that would fit. Motor will not be stock either it will have some work done to it and some internals changed.

I'd get a modern 5 speed from a car that had LS engines
Camaro or corvette or something

With just about anything. We just did a 78 Toyota Land Cruiser, with a lq4 using the 4.8 flywheel and clutch, we use a gen 1 small block Muncie truck tranny, & a standard gen 1 clutch disc that would go with the tranny. Literally bolted right up, no elaborate mods. Literally, any gen 1 small block transmission will work. You just have to get the correct clutch disc for the transmission.

not that easy
LS engines have several different crankshaft snout lengths
Some require a spacer behind the flywheel

Any manual behind a 99-up truck with a LS will work, or any SBC like a  NV3550 will work, just one bolt won't be used...
Just have to get the associated LS clutch parts with it...

Sorry for the slow reply but thanks! I ended up scoring an a 10 spline M20 for 450 with no bellhousing but I had one from a old 3 on the tree that used to be in the truck back in the late 90s. Just gathering up components now and trying to figure out, what clutch I'm gonna use. I was thinking about a McLeod 75244.
