Brake lights and turn signals not working properly
« on: October 28, 2015, 11:39:38 am »
Got a 76 Chevy k10. I just replaced the tail light lenses, side markers, turn signals and all the bulbs to got with them. The side markers and front turn signals work fine. The tail lights work on pass and driver side. The brake lights only work on the pass side and the right rear turn signal is the only one the works. Any suggestion? Would a new flasher help or possibly a wiring problem.

Check obvious things first. Make sure your grounds are clean and tight, check to verify that the bulb is good. I've bought brand new bulbs before that wound up being bad right out of the package. Check to verify that you have power to your socket for your bulb. Then inspect the yellow wire on the left side, as that is the common wire for your brake light and turn signal on the driver's side. I would suspect an issue with this wire if you say that everything else is working normally. Especially if everything functions normally on the front of the truck, then your components for the lights inside your cab are functioning as they should.

Check power at the connection under the hood where tail lights split off

I am starting to think it might be the turn signal swith behind the steering wheel. I went to check my hazards the other day and after I turned the hazards off the left turn signal arrow on the dash kept flashing. Switch has been ordered so I guess we will see is the $35 part works.

I figured out the problem. Turn signal switch and wires from the connector to the tail lights needed some TLC. Good to go now. Couple more days and truck will be on the road for the first time since I have owned it.
