Truck stuck in neutral

I was driving my truck and the np 205 transfer case blew out one of the inspection plugs and lost the fluid.  I didn't hear any grinding but the truck went into neutral and now it won't go.  I cleaned the vent and reinstalled the plug and filled it with fluid but it is still in neutral.  Any ideas?

I was driving it and the RPM of the engine started to go up like something was slipping so I pulled over.  When I gave it gas the truck stood still and the engine just rev'd.  When the tow arrived I noticed there was fluid in the ground. I thought at first I had blown a tranny line but when I checked the next day one of the rubber inspection plugs was missing from the transfer case and the tranny was full of fluid.

if you can drop the transfer case, you can verify it is the transfer by rotating the input shaft, and watching the outputs, you can rotate the input and try and hold the outputs too to make sure they are still solid, all while shifting it through the ranges, if none of the outputs rotate with the input, something sheared, normally a key, sometimes the whole shaft.

if the outputs do rotate with the input, I would look at the tranny itself,(I assume some automatic one, since you said tranny lines earlier)

actually I would look and make sure all the linkages are adjusted right first, if the shifter linkage for the tranny or transfer isn't getting into the right location, it may not get in gear right

Transmission is a TH 350.  I figured if the transfer case was stuck in neutral the truck should move in park but it wouldn't. I started it up and it would move a little with everything cold but once it heated up nothing. May it is the transmission?

No, nice and pink. I was told that if I jack up the rear end, put the transmission in neutral, the transfer case in 4wd and not lock the hubs I could see if the transfer case was working by spinning the front drive shaft and see if the rear wheels spin. I will give that a try and let everyone know what happens.

since you have a 205 and its all gear driven it either works or not. and since you said when its cold you can get some movement im betting on the trans. if you put it in 1st manually does it move?

Only at first when it is cold.  Give it a minute to heat up and nothing.

Did you add enough fluid to fill the transfer case and the transmission?

The T case and trans don't share fluid. You will put fluid from the trans to the adapter but there's a weep hole that will allow it to drain back to the transmission

Sounds like you need a trans rebuild. Idk much about them so I can't say for sure but someone on here will direct you. If it was me I would either rebuild it myself if I had the extra room or take it to a shop to rebuild it

If you leave tranny in park, but move transfer to 4wd can you move front drive shaft by hand?, if you can then definitely transfer, or actually can you roll truck while in park? If it does not roll then definitely transmission, just odd to lose transfer case fluid, but lose the tranny

Oh never mind reread earlier post, something in tranny for sure, lost pressure for whatever reason(why it wants to go cold, higher pressure) could be as simple as torque converter gone bad
