Transmission NP203 adapter - mounts
« on: November 30, 2015, 02:20:02 am »
1978 GMC k15, 4x4, chevy 350 with NP203 xfer case.

I can buy a set of transmission mounts, complete with metal, or I can buy mounts, less the metal.  The metal I speak is a steel sleeve and also a "C" looking piece of metal.  The "C" shaped piece of metal holds a mount that I cannot separate.  It appears to be glued to the metal.  The replacement set with the metal comes separate and is assembled prior to installation.  How do I separate the "C" shaped metal from the rubber on my old one ?  I don't really need the more expensive set pictured below. It shows you the "C" shaped piece of metal I speak.

I have been told to use a torch...is this the best way. any other suggestions ?

The mounts pictured are Energy Suspension polyurethane.  Factory mounts are rubber.  The factory rubber mounts are firmly vulcanized to the steel cages.  Purchase the complete mount set for your initial installation.  If they need subsequent replacement, purchase the poly mounts by themselves.

You would need an ox-acetylene torch to effectively burn the rubber.  Rubber smoke is highly toxic.  Using a torch to burn the rubber away is risky.
