How good is 3m adhesive?
« on: June 27, 2005, 01:46:00 pm »
In replacing the rubbers around my wing windows I've ran into a variation in the original part and my replacement form  . The back side of the original stripping (mounts against the pillar that seperates the wing window from the roll-down window) has little tabs that get bent around holes in the pillar. The replacement piece is just smooth rubber which would require me to secure it solely with adhesive. So my question is, will it hold? I've never used the weather stripping adhesive before and am a leary of it.
I did go the parts department at a dealer to see about getting it from them, but it appears the part I would have to order is probably different from the original and could be the exact same thing I have from  .

I have used the 3-m weatherstrip adhesive on my 66 impala that I restored and that stuff is awesome. I had a tube of the yellow 3-m stuff when I was doing my car but I believe it comes in black as well. I have used it on other cars too with no problems. Just make sure that once you glue your seals on you don't have to take them back off, cause they won't come off in one piece. The stuff is very stringy and messy so be careful not to get it were you don't want it cause it's a pain to clean off.
