Removing stock stereo

this one. theres a adapter plugged into it in the picture so it has the capability to be both male and female.


so you can even plug it into a radio or anything that has a aux in port and then connect your phone to it

I know you guys are talking about using your factory radio to get aux and Bluetooth, but I tried the retrosound model two and I love it, I get am/fm, 2 aux ports, Bluetooth, and two USB ports.  I didn't have to cut my dash and it looks stock if you aren't familiar with the stock radio

My Buddy has a Retrosound and it is definitely nice!  A bit pricey for me, but a very cool idea.

I built a replacement for the ashtray to hold the Ipod (or whatever).  Also put a switch on the (always hot) cigarette lighter plug.

Putting the ashtray on a switch wasn't a bad idea. A nice feature to have.

I used a right angle drill to make the hole and before I mounted the stereo I ran the wire up there.  You can't see any of it when the ashtray door is closed, which was the purpose of that location.  Also only need a short wire to get from the Ipod to the Input.

BTW - Since 2nd Gen Ipod accessories are VERY cheap on Ebay, I bought an Ipod Airclick Remote for about $5 shipped.  It is an RF remote so it works about 60ft out.  I attached it to the steering wheel, so I can change tunes (or pause or whatever) even if the door of the ashtray is closed.

Also have a second remote mounted to the handlebars of my Kawasaki Nomad.  When I ride with tunes, I hang the Ipod on a lanyard around my neck, and use earbuds.

That helped where did you get the female aux input that is threaded, those are a little challenging to find

You HAVE to get the RadioShack 274-246 (also 274246) for this to work.  It acts as a normally closed switch as well as an input.  In other words, when nothing is plugged into it, the radio signal passes through it to the amp.  When something is plugged into it, it closes off the radio signal and replaces it with the input signal.

I got mine on Ebay, $7.50 shipped.  Sorry, don't see any available on Ebay now.  But somebody has one somewhere... time to use your Google-Fu!
