Repairing headliner board (before fabric replacement)

I'm not asking about replacing the fabric here, I know what to do there. However, my board isn't perfect and I'd like to repair it before I glue down new fabric/foam.

There are a couple of spots (none larger than golfball size) where the coating on the interior facing side of the board has been pulled up, leaving the fiberous part of the board exposed. -I hoe that makes since. I don't think that the new foam will stick very well to the exposed fibers.

Does anyone know of a way to repair this? I was thinking about brushing on a thin glue solution then sanding it smooth; but I wonder if I would have problems with the glue holding up to the heat in the summer.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'd sure love to hear them.
Thanks,
Barry

I usually just get a new headliner board  If it is too bad.   I haven't tried fixing them. The new ones aren't foam (at least the ones I got.)
