Edelbrock 1406 carb

I'm trying to install an edelbrock 1406 carb on my 84 C10 Silverado. The old carb was a quadrajet that had three linkages to three different cables on the drivers side of the carb. Obviously one is the throttle, I've gathered one of the other two is an auto transmission kickdown cable? Is that right? What is the third cable?

You can see two of the cables in this pic of the old carb, the third cable is hidden behind and underneath the two visible ones

So it's actually the linkage in that last pic, the one with the metal rod that's hooked through whatever that circular thing is next to the brake booster. That's the one I don't get

Yeah I believe you're right Stewart, that's the cruise control servo I guess. Does anyone know where the vacuum lines coming out of the cruise control servo connect?

The quadrajet does have a higher CFM capability but on a smallblock with a few upgrades, it won't be a downgrade.

If it was a Built Big Block it would be a downgrade.

Edelbrocks are great carbs. I ran them for years. As long as you keep the trash and water out of them, they are basically maintaince free.

Edelbrocks are actually the old Carter carbs...Edelbrock bought Carter out and back then Carter was a very good carb....i ran 2 of them on a 1970 Dodge charger with a 440 and she would tear up the roads.

Is the choke plate supposed to be wide open when you start the engine up? It sounds like I have the pedal stomped to the floor immediately after I start the truck, and the choke plate is wide open

An expertly tuned quad will out perform other carbs in performance and reliability. It just has to be set up for its specific application.

Yes choke plate should be fully open when you start the engine cold and should slowly close as the engine warms up.

So why does my engine idle at like 4000 rpm when I start it? I've done a lot of work on the engine over the past few weeks, I deleted the EGR and  AIR pump, added headers new exhaust system, new carb, I'm not sure where I screwed up putting it back together.
