74 K10 w/ 3/4 Ton Axles- about to start project
« on: January 07, 2017, 12:56:49 pm »
Hey everyone. Been wanting a box body since I was a kid and finally got one. She is a 74 K10. Frame straight, some cab rust, electrical mostly missing, factory AC half gone. Basically, body is a good skeleton and most of the drive train is present, except front drive shaft. Since I am starting from scratch, what mods should I go ahead and put in while I have her completely torn apart. I am also not sure if it is a NP203 or 205. Pretty sure I have a TH350 and a 350ci engine.

Plan: frame off restore body to original. Interior replace dash/pad/gauges. Split bench with bucket seats. Rebuild 350 as 383 probably. Have manual hubs so I think I have a 205 so just rebuild it. Rebuild TH350. Keep dual gas tanks. LED or Halogen head lights. LED all other lights.  Replace full wiring harness with Painless kit.

Any other suggestions?

74 K10 with T350 should have a 203. Hubs could have been added as well as a part time kit in the 203.
Data tag on the on the left side.
3/4 ton axles swapped in anythings possible with a 42 year old truck.

The dash bezel, gauges, wiper switch, headlight knob length, amp gauge are unique in some ways for 73-75 depending on what your plans are.

How hard will it be to rewire this beast? I can imagine that there aren't that many wires behind the cab but cab wiring is going to be fun.

There are complete replacement harnesses available. Painless makes them.
There is a store on this site u might want to see what's available here.
I'm sure there are some on here that have rewired, I have not.
Depends on what u have to work with and what u want to do. Original or custom.

Was planning to do as much back to original as possible then make the mods to that for LED's and HID's. That will give me a place to start.
