Floorboards ... 73-87 identical?
« on: February 10, 2007, 03:39:00 pm »
I have an 80 3/4T with rusted through floorboards. Even the "rail", which holds the weather strip, has rusted off, on the driver's side.  Are 73-87's floorboards all identical in shape? Been looking through a "pick a part" yard, at different year donor trucks, ...  and to me, they seem to be all the same. Surburban fb's appear to be identical to the trucks. Am I correct with my assessment, or am I missing something?  I know I have some cutting and welding, in my furture. Appreciate the help. Thanks

4x4s have a bigger tranny hump than a 2x4. there might be some other differences from burbs, blazers, and trucks, but i don't know. someone else can chime in.

All pickups have the same floorboards.  73-87.  Burbs are simular to pickups, but lack the rear shelf portion, so all won't match.  The Foot area of Blazers will match the pickup, but that is all.

If you plan to use used florrs you will need to cut the fire wall, a pilers, cab corners, and rear wall off the bottom of the cab and then drill all the spot welds out to seperate the panels you need. The rail you referenced is not part of the floor, its part of the outer rocker panel.
My personal opinion you would be way ahead of the game to by repair panels to fix your rust.

Some people are like Slinkies. Not really good for anything, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs

Blazin,

I'm not replacing the complete floorboard(s). Just the bad areas. Cut out the bad, and leave the rest. I'm aware the "rail" is on the rocker, which I plan to partially remove. This is  a $550 work truck, not a restore job. My goal is to  "piece together" these floorboards, with a minimum investment. If this was a nice truck, I'd be doing it "by the book", as you suggested.  Again, appreciate the help.
