Need assistance! What is this.....
« on: August 13, 2018, 05:00:25 PM »
I’m in the process of replacing the 350ci in my 1984 c20 and I’m almost done with it but a broke a small tube that comes out of the manifold right in front of the egr valve. Its a plate that bolts to the intake manifold before the egr and has two small metal tubes coming out of it. It’s been really frustrating as I can’t find any info on what it’s called or where I can buy a replacement. It’s the only thing holding me up from finishing the engine swap. I would greatly appreciate and help you guys can give me!

Ps hadn’t been on since I registered since both my k5 and c20 ended up with blown motors and ended up taking a spot on the back burner. But they’re both on the way back!

  Thanks
      Alex

This is the little culprit here. The one with the tubes coming out of it....

That's for the choke. Why is that preventing you from replacing the engine?

It’s keeping me from finishing up. I swapped motors already the motor is in the truck. But if you look at the base of the tube I broke it. And I want to fix or replace it before I bolt the carb on and do all the vacuum lines.

It's such ancient technology, have you considered installing an electric choke? (even though that is also ancient technology)

If not, just get a choke heater tube kit.

Haha anything with a carburetor now a days is ancient (unless it’s a carbed LS?)... I’d be willing to go electric choke. Is there a conversion kit I can use or will I have to buy a complete carburetor?

Is this the original engine?

As a side note, while heat-stove choke may be "ancient technology," i think it works well.

This is the replacement engine I put in. If i could find the replacement tubes I wouldn’t mind keeping it. Worked great for me no issues ever.... until I broke it

What i was trying to get at was, is this the original intake?   i would have thought that by 84, there would an electric choke?   (Speaking of "ancient technology"..............)

These guys on Ebay look like the have what you need to fix the old hot air choke.  However, it would probably cost you less to just convert to an electric choke.

Guys, a universal choke tube kit is like $10 bucks at any parts store.
