What is this box ?
« on: June 13, 2006, 07:48:00 pm »
86 4.3l v6 carbed
No ecu under dash that I can find.

My original thread

Finally got time to work on my non starting truck.

Found this in the top of the glove box.

For about 2 months, if i disconnected and reconnected this sucker the truck would start right up  9/10 times.  It appears thats not going to work anymore.

ESC ?

I have this connector coming from the disty

Just want to make sure before I do the bypass as described here:

Go for it.I'm 95% sure that you're 99% correct.I see tape on the 2 wires that need to be spliced together.Something up under that tape?

If you're a not sure about it,don't pull all the wires out.If you leave them in place, you can always put it back easily but it seems simple enough.

When I first started this whole ordeal, both of those wires where intact but had bare wire covered in electrical tape.  :eek

So i cut them and resoddred to make sure they where making good connection.

Guess I'll be doing it again.  ;)

Loads of fun being probally the 5th+ owner of an old truck.  I see all sorts of stuff that has been changed or removed.  Ive even got 1 wire that has never been hooked up that goes somewhere.

Thanks for the responce.

Alright.

Black and green are together. I didnt mess with the pink as it already seems to be coming from the BATT terminal on the disty.

Started right up.  Misses badly under load (right before first shift).

Think my timing is off, or is there something else I need to consider to compinsate for that box not being there ?

Thanks again.

The write up from Dan mentions cutting the pink from the ESC
so that the pink runs to the distributor only and not to the ESC. Could it still be pulling juice from the dizzy?

Possibly.  I tried running with the ESC box hooked up, but it was my understanding that you removed it completely. Seemed to do better withough it.

The pink wire should be coming from the battery (or switched power source) to the BAT terminal of the distributor, the ESC should not get this power any longer.  The green and black wire need to be cut at the plug and connected together.  Is this what you did?

I have a thicker pink wire with a smaller pink coming off of the batt terminal at the cap.  I think the smaller of the 2 goes to the esc box as if someone has already tried this in some fashion.

Black and green are together.  ESC box is unplugged completly.

It sounds like you have another problem other than the ESC now, if it is unhooked.
