I keep eyeballing the Ruger Alaskan's, but I can't figure out what I need one for, other than for the fun...

I have a '94 Trapper and standard (4.2") Redhawk, both in .45LC.  So, for me, it was a no-brainer.  Considering that you can go to the moon with some of the modern .45LC loads, the .454 is definitely overkill for anyone other than folks who camp (or professionally guide) in Grizzly country.

Despite that, the Alaskan is a nice little "truck gun".  Throw it and a coupla' speed-loaders in the bag, toss the bag in the toolbox, and...if you have to overnight in the badlands...you're (literally) loaded for bear.

Despite being a Buck guy, I've been known to throw a Case in my pocket, from time-to-time.

The Case chrome vanadium blades will happily take an edge like nothing I've ever owned.  If you're careless with 'em, they'll gladly draw blood with little-to-no provocation.

They have a "personality", so to speak.  They change color and patina, depending on what you cut with 'em.  Every now and again, they get what I call the "blue flame" effect...
