2wd to 4x4
« on: November 09, 2006, 10:32:00 am »
I would like to convert a 1989 GMC Crew Cab 2wd Auto 350 to 4x4. What would I need to do or buy to do this swap? I plan on getting a 4x4 parts truck for the 4x4 parts. How long would this take to convert? What kind of mods do I have to do to the frame, any cutting, welding?

Thanks

If you have a working donor, you just need to swap all the parts over.  The brake lines and possible shock mounts my mount differently, but the framerails are the same.  You also need the rear spring mounts from the 4x4.

Okay converting the frame seems like alot of work. So I was woundering if a regular cab or crew cab would fit on a 4x4 Suburban frame or is that also alot of work?

the regular cab will probalby bolt to most of the Burb frame, but the Crew would have to have mounts fabricated.  In additon, a long bed won't fit on a burb frame with the regular cab, the wheelbase is too short.

Thats fine if long bed wont fit, the bed size dosen't matter, even if I have to fab one up to fit.
