Alright everyone I have an update on the valve adjustment fiasco! I adjusted the valves twice front to back and back to front and the ticking is a lot less noticeable at idle. However when throttle is applied the ticking is significantly louder but still not as loud as before. On spot near the year/mid and a tiny light tick near the very front. I've tried my best to adjust it but it's just not working. It's too hot out to be in the hot engine bay anymore today but I'd like to know your thought on this. Is it possible that I have some serious damage or does it just need some fine tuning? I really don't want to open up the side panels to see if the rods are bent or whatever. But I may have to. Anyways here is a Pic of the cardboard valve cover I made that worked really well. Just wish I could see a bit more but it kept it clean so that's all that really matters. Also one of the truck so you can get an idea of what it looks like, I know it's not important but its always nice to have a visual.

Had you verified good oil pressure?

Like via a gauge? There was oil all over my custom cover.

Congrats on the McGyver oil control!!!

Oil pressure is relative to the lifters being able to pump up and be quiet. Or be sticky and clacky.

You can put it back together and use some product like "Rislone" to release a stuck lifter, which it seems you have.

Thanks! I freaking love MacGyver, the old show not the new one! How long does that rislone stuff last? Or will it fix the stuck lifter?

Then swap in a v8. Just gotta do my research on which ones will work for my truck. Ideally I'll find a full setup 350 for around $600

I'm in the high-end custom consumer electronics field, my pat answer to my techs is " so your saying it can't be done?" Thus my nick name "MacGyver".

I have seen Rislone break loose lifters that sounded like rod bearings going bad.

Sounds like you have a good adjustment going till you make the change to a rad v8.

Alright. I'll go with that for now! Thanks for all the help! Which rislone should I use? Engine treatment? I'm sure I'll be back with another forum post about 350 engines and such.

To my knowledge, there is only one 'Rislone'. It has been around since I was a lad, now some 40 years removed.

Well I guess they've expanded their line  ::)

Go with the engine treatment.

UPDATE! I adjusted the valves running and its much quieter now, however there is still a tiny lifter tick noise. But I can deal with it. As long as it wont make the engine blow up I dont care haha. At somepoint ill try the rislone but not until I get it going down the dang road! I keep running into issues and it keeps setting me back. But I am getting closer and it just keeps improving the truck so its not all bad. Just money doenst grow on trees haha
