Hood Hinge and Spring Replacement ???
«
on:

Well, my 50 year old hood hinges and springs are pretty weak it seems so i replace them with new ones and now they are sooo tight that i'm concerned i'm going to bent the hood while closing it.
Is this a common problem?
Other than oil them, what can i do to help loosen them up?
Thanks

Only time and lubrication will allow it to wear in.
If you're in danger of it pancaking the hood, I would invest in some hood savers.

Vice-grip garage explains it well. “Push in and down.”

Put the OE springs back in
This....better then bending the hood, or cracking paint.

Ok, great advice - thank y'all.
The original springs are too weak - but think i found a fix for this.
Lubed the poo out of them and got a friend to help me close the hood very slowly (needed 2 folks to close her without doing any damage). Kept the hood closed for several days and let the springs stay extended!
Opened it up last night and its getting better - now one person can close it
