Hello, I would like to know if any of you bought a new roof skin. I'm looking at changing mine out on my 78. I'm wondering about the fit, and thickness as compared to the factory. If they fit poorly I'll just patch mine up. I see several places have them, I'm thinking they are "probably" made in the same place which is oversees. Any thoughts?? Thanks.

I've not used an aftermarket roof but the factory roof is flimsy to begin with. How bad is yours? Pics?

Well it's not too bad, I wanted to replace it instead of fixing two small rust holes in the upper part where the braze weld is, where it connects to the A pillar. But after I did some research and see that you can't get to the spot welds at the rear of the cab I changed my mind. I have the cab off and stripped but don't want to do all the cut off wheel work and but welding at the rear. It "appears" that you can cut the spot welds and remove the inner roof skin and that would give access to the rear spot welds, but I haven't seen that anywhere. I would like to know if anybody has done it that way. My roof isn't that bad and I can do the repair but I really would like to get inside to deal with the surface rust that I know is in there and also upgrade the insulation pad.

There's only two holes in the entire cab. On the pass side a pillar at the top right above the brazed joint. They are both in the roof, not the pillar.
