Inflation?
« on: September 28, 2023, 10:41:46 PM »
Is this why this board is so light in terms of progress on projects?

I'm not making a political statement, just an observation...

With just "fuel prices" +65% I'm just guessing that it's cutting into what is generally disposable income to further our projects.

Again, not that I'm unaffected, just curious...

I'm not afraid to turn this political if that is the cause, but my impression is that it has less to do with inflation rates being 15%+ and more to do with fewer people having a vested interest in squarebodies. A new generation of idiots is taking the helm of this country and they aren't very interested in these old trucks. They like looking at them but aren't doing anything more than that.

I think the hobby is doing very well.  Forum's use on the other hand is down due to the 73-87 Groups on Facebook.  I use to belong to many but the poorly moderated groups I left.  I frequent this Forum a couple times a day.  Facebook gets much more time because of Marketplace.  Kind of a one stop shop for many interests.  My $.02 no one asked for

I cancelled Facebook in Nov 2020 and will never go back. Our government is doing their best to eliminate our trucks and other fossil fuel vehicles with outrageous policies that ban drilling and tax hikes. Inflation does come down to politics and the corrupt government we have that is out of control on spending, much of it going to foreign nations and an open border.

Forum participation here is just way down. Inflation is not the cause but I will say the current state of the nation (USA) is an embarrassment. Our country has never been softer and weaker. God only knows how many villains and terrorists are here now with 8 + million border illegal entries and growing. The value of the dollar from when these trucks were introduced to today just makes them more valuable by today's standards meanwhile people cling to the memories of what they used to cost. So naturally it makes sense to invest in these trucks still.

I have done a ton of work on my trucks, just haven't felt the urge to be a content provider as I am too busy. I am sure others are in the same boat and are just using other platforms to easily upload pictures and videos while this format is a bit more labor intensive and goes to a smaller audience. Nevertheless, we are like the bar on the corner where the regulars like to visit.

Definitely affects me. I'm a check to check guy, and I've been buying parts piece by piece since 2022. I'm 3k in now. The extra 100 on fuel and groceries, well, that was my grille. Or a rim. Or any # of things of that price.

It's definitely affected me as I've had to alter my shopping and eating choices.

I have been visiting this forum for over 10 years a long with a LOT of others.

We are old fellas, forums are dead and insta, tik tok, YouTube and Facebook are where the young guys go.

The fact the owners and mods keep this massive archive of knowledge open and available is a blessing and I would like to thank them!! I  try to actively participate to keep this place going if I have any knowledge on the most current subjects.

Thank you all for your participation of quality content. The forum has been experiencing server issues for a while now slowing things down too. Hopefully that will be resolved soon.

Thank you for your participation for the 10 years, I have owned this for the past 21 years and turn 55 next year, as long as I can afford it, at minimum I will keep the forum going.  Donations are not required but gladly accepted.

I am doing my best they keep saying they don't see errors like we do, sadly my expertise is in Server errors and stability, they keep lying and I keep asking for log and event dumps.  I am trying to find a way to move it to another server without impact but...

As far as slowness on projects, my Blazer has currently been stuck in Frame jail for 2.5 years, My Twin Turbo 1987 Trucks has just been a driver short of 2020 when the radiator and fans gave out at LS Fest and the Pandemic shortage kept is down for a while, but its back in rotation now.  Crew Cab project is on hold, I bought my wife a 1997 Silverado and it has been in rotation, in 2022 I regeared my 2006 Jeep Wrangler TJ.

Content wise I have 2 non-73-87 related builds that happened:  in Nov 2021 I LS swapped my daughters 2011 Mustang V6: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-swaps/1964590-captkaos-2011-s197-ls-swap.html

As of Sept of this year I am rebuilding a 1991 S10 and LS swapping it with a 350K mile 5.3L that I am refreshing.

As a guy who has run a few forums over the decades, I just wanted to say, "Thanks!" for keeping this on-line -- and to express my amazement at the longevity.  I didn't know there was a FB group so may have to check that out (weekly if that).  I'd rather check out a forum than FB.

I guess that makes me old.

Thanks, I have been on forums going on longer than 25 years now..  I am old...

There isnt a FB group.  Nothing is retained on an ever scrolling platform.  Personally I think it is a horrible way to retain information so I see no reason to have one.

I frankly don't understand FB Marketplace. You search and get a giant pile of what you didn't ask for. No thanks.

I've been busy on the Suburban, as you've all seen. Unfortunately, that's largely funded by savings. I feel better watching my Bitcoin surging, however.

I also have a '89 Accord that finds every possible reason not to run. It sits for a few years, then I fix it, and it runs for a few years. It's a battle of wills, mine vs. the car's. The distributor failed 2? years ago and I can't find a working replacement. I'm doing an EDIS conversion on it now. It's a crank-fired ignition developed by Ford in the '80s, retrofitted onto my trash. It's not smog-legal here, but what can I do? I have to fab up new bracketry to mount the trigger wheel and sensor, as well as move the PS pump to run off a different pulley. I'm learning all kinds about 3D printing and home CNC machining. Good times, but overwhelming too.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

You spit the gospel. Even if someone never participates, if you sign up here and look through the archives, I mean, actually f'n look, there are tons of posts with pictures for almost anything and most the guys here will always help out with knowledge. Lord knows this site has been a saving grace a few times for me
