Update: I took it to the most reputable suspension shop in the area, Palmer Springs. They did a bunch of work on the front, new driver upper control arm, outer tie rods pass side, new bushings etc. The clunking has subsided for the most part but it iis still there. Sometimes I hear it when I brake or start suddenly or back out. Maybe it's just because is an old truck and that's how it is?

They also suggested replacing the rear leaf springs, bushings and the hardware to hold it all. Saving $$$ to do that myself.

Quick oft-overlook guess?  Check the leaf spring centering bolt.

Final update: I went to this DIY Garage we have where they can put the truck on the lift and I loosened all the bolts and re-torqued them and re-charged the leafsprings, and the owner is a mechanic so we talked it over. He thought maybe I had torqued them with different levels of spring compression, one theory.

it seems the clunk is gone, so maybe it worked. At least now it's been double-checked.

Thanks all for your feedback.
