Dana 44 axle rebuild

Is the ring and pinion from the front axle of a Dana 44 from a Jeep Cherokee compatible with the Dana 44 ( Dana 44-8F ) from a '78 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4?

My guess is they are the same, anyone know the facts on this?

Yes.  The Dana 44 carrier that my friend (a mechanic) put in my rear 44 on my '74 CJ-5 came from a front Blazer 44.
