Progress over the weekend
« on: October 02, 2006, 04:22:00 pm »
I am just posting some progress that I made over the weekend.
Friday I made an ALDL Interface cable to log my '87 R10 and my '90 Suburban.  Works really well.

Saturday I started Troubleshooting a problem with my '90 Burb that I haven't had time to work on.  Once you crank it up and it gets warm and drive it.  Eventually when you apply the brakes it dies.  Any ideas.  I am thinking it is a vacuum leak, but...
I also started on replacing the Body Bushings on my Jimmy.  Got the tank dropped, fuel fill removed and PB Blasted the bolts/nuts

Sunday: Started on removing the bolts.  All but 3 came out/off.  I had to tack one bolt to the body to get the nut off on the back and I had to cut the floorboard to weld the captured nut bracket back down.  I imagine I will have to do the otherside this way also.  Should route the new EFI lines once that is done.

Right on. With all your projects, you must either be single or have a hugely understanding wife! :rollin   That frame looks like it's got a lot of scale eh?

That is only surface rust, it's not even fun until the spring perches resemble one of those Flakey Layer biscuits:evil

Nope, I am married and have a litte one on the way.  She is pretty understanding since I have about 10 projects going at once.

The Jimmy came from up north and yes compared to what I have seen it is VERY rusty.  I got the body bolts out this past week and the rear cab support is "flaky".  There is a lot of rust on this compared to what I am used to, and the PO's bodyman did pathetic work.  He only coverded the problem areas of which I will eventually have to fix.

Chris, is it possible your brake booster is shot and losing vacuum? If you're not losing vacuum then Ya might check to see if the brake lights are on when you apply the brakes. If the bulbs are good, you might have a wire rubbed bare and shorting to ground down around the brake pedal. I think one side of the brake light switch comes from the ignition. I suppose you could take the wires off the switch and apply the brakes to see if the engine still dies. if the engine doesn't die, viola!- You're close to a fix.
