amazes me how much $ people want for these trucks

3,500 or 4,500 5,000 and some 8,000 around here for these trucks. i'd like to have another one but i can't give that much for one. i believe these trucks will turn out to be like muscle cars of the late 60's and early 70's, go for 20,000 one day. what do ya'll think?

I rarely see them go for that much around Arizona unless they are in awesome shape or have alot of work done.

Go to phoenix.craigslist.org and search the cars and trucks for "C10" or Silverado and you'll come up with so much..

There was a 1981 stepside for sale I saw recently around here that was in good shape so I figured $1500 - $2,000 tops so I called the guy and he said 16 so I said $1600 right no $16,000!!! It was a granny tranny 6 cylinder with almost 200K on it!  I told him to fry ice!

Here in East Texas there are still quite a few still "kickin" and reletively reasonbly priced. I bought my 82 C10 2 years ago for $2500 - had a recent rebuilt 305 H engine, new headliner, recovered seat ect..... I thought I got a pretty good deal. still MANY nice ones to choose from 'round here less than 5K......

well here in my part of georgia they go pretty high. a good 80s chevy k10 will sell for 5-10k. my 86 when i bought it and before i put all the scratches and dings in it i was offered 12k for it but i just couldnt get rid of it. i have too much time and money in it to sell

don't you guys think that is too high for these trucks. the newest one you can get is an 87. that's what i have and we gave 5K for it and i think that was too high. 20 years and older trucks just shouldn't be priced this high. but they're in demand.

I have been watching for these to grow in popularity since about 1992 when I got more involved on the internet.  Right now is when it is in full swing for all of them.  There are still those out there that are low priced though.

Theres a guy up the street selling a 86 LWB in solid condition w/ title for 400.00. Whats wrong with it i dont know its been sitting awhile though but its complete.So the deals are out there.

It doesn't surprise me one bit.  Think about it, brand new trucks are going for nearly a house costs 15 yrs ago....many need a 15 yr mortgage to get one.  

People love to tinker with their four-wheeled-prized possession.  No can do on a new one without serious education on them.

I have my 79 chevy pickup that I put a 383 stroker in and just love driving it---you can have those 35 thousand dollar trucks that you'd be afraid to drive in the woods or get a scratch  or door ding on it at the mall.

More states are passing antique plates laws for older vehicles and many do not require state inspections, etc.. on an antique.

As for the prices in the north versus southwest:  Cancer ate up a large percentage of these puppies due to the salt, weather, etc...The numbers are decreasing in those areas.  In the southwest on the other hand, no rain and no snow (salt).  There is no wonder the military and private companies alike use Arizona land as graveyards for decommisioned airplanes and other machines--they stay preserved.  Do like what i did (91 sub), buy your next truck from Arizona. My plane ticket from VA to Phoenix was about $400, gas on the return trip about the same, but all is still worth it.

Prices on these older trucks are less where they are a plenty--in the southwest.  Prices are more in Saltville where trucks without rust is, well, unheard of.

good point Sgt. there plentiful around here in west TN. it's just the folks around here know everybody wants them and so the sellers will put a high price tag on them. there around you just gotta keep an eye out, especially for a cheap one. i'll find 1 one day, well another one i mean.

They are fairly cheap around here (WA) if you look around enough. I've seen a few around here for 1500-2000 with little to no rust and still running strong. There is a 1975-78 Suburban down the street with only surface rust around the wheel wells everything else in good condition for $1800 obo. Also saw a 79 LWB for 1500 no rust recently had a lot of work done to it as well.

I paid $6000 for mine. The guy wanted $8500 for it. My truck is in really nice shape but it wasn't perfect. Has 2-3 small rust issues that you have to look for. But it was frame-off redone in 2000 and appraised for $15k at that time. Most of the nicer ones around here with minimal/no rust and hot rodded somewhat are in the 5-10k range.  There's a few over 10k here and there but they are show quality and really hot rodded. Looked at beautiful mid-80s SWB last year, tubbed out, 454 with tunnel ram and dual 4's, beautiful body for $18k. Another show truck with a 427 is at $30k. These trucks though have easily that much money put into them.

I Bought my 1986 SWB here in Mississippi for $1200. Granted it needed ALOT of work. The Engine smoked so badly that my neighbors thought i was the Mosquito Truck. It came with a Solid TH400 Transmission. The original Engine was the 4.3L 262, but was removed in favor of the Smokin' (Pun Intended) 350 4-Bolt Main. Original Tranny was a 3 Speed Column Shift. Somehow they managed to make it into an Auto with the old Standard Column. Everything about the Truck was Half-*$^. The Tires were 235/60R15s. The Exhaust was Wired up with Coat Hangers. The Dash Lights don't work. When i turn Left the Fuel Gauge Needle goes Back and forth. The Body is Majorly Solid though. $3000 later, i'm starting to get the Thing working the way that it should. The Engine is newly Rebuilt. 284 Cam, 1.6:1 Rollers, Flat Top Pistons Etc..... Does that mean that i Paid $4200 For a Solid Truck?Exterior of the TruckThe New Engine

In most cases, that's too much. There are plenty of trucks around that are worth $5k or more, but not without some unique features such as a factory big block, rare option package or well-performed upgrades. In the northeast, there's no shortage of roadworthy trucks for less than $1000.... most have rust issues, but they are cheap enough to restore.


I don't see values increasing far beyond what you're seeing now. In rural Maine, even 20 years after production ceased, you'd be hard-pressed to drive a couple miles without seeing one still on the road. I believe the market will continue to be flooded with these trucks far into the future.
