What's needed for TH350 to Muncie 4speed swap in a 86 C10?

I'm thinking of switching to a muncie in my 86 C10.  Right now it has a 350 with a th350.  But I may be switching to a 406 soon and I would like to put in this muncie trans that my friend has.  It's in a Nova.  If I have full access to it, and can pull off anything I need, will I have everything I need(Pedal,linkage,shifter,clutch,etc)?  Or will I need to buy some truck specific parts?  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

(1) I would buy a new clutch regardless of the one with the trans. condition. Plus it is probably only a 10" maybe an 11". I would secure a 12" flywheel and get a 12" clutch. Get new not a reman clutch too.
(2) Personally I would find a hydraulic clutch bell housing, slave cylinder, master cylinder from a truck.
(3) You will have to get the bracket that hangs the clutch, brake pedals. The bracket is the same for linkage and hydraulic but the clutch pedal is different. The bracket also incorporates the vacuum booster and steering column mount.
(4) The shifter will work, you might need to extend the handle or get a longer one.

I doubt that I could find a manual truck around here.  So I guess I'll stick with the auto until one comes in at our local junkyard.

You will also need the frame mount for the Z-bar along with the linkage and springs, plus you need to cut a hole in the floorboard for the actuator to pass through ( with manual linkage)

I live 2 hours south of San Antonio.  I'm gonna go check out some old trucks I saw on the backroads a few days ago.  Maybe one of them will have a manual trans.

Looking to do this for my truck. Had a 305 with a 700r4 sold them and now have a 350 from same year truck and an m20 muncie 4 spd.

Have the bell housing and clutch already. What all do I need as far as pedal assembly? Z bar linkage? Have a shifter already should work fine.

You need pedals, actuator rod, pins and the z bar and zbar bracket for the frame.

Hello Captkaos,

I found a pedal setup and the guy had the z bar and the actuator rod. No bracket for the frame though. Any idea where I could find one? Finding stuff for this swap is like finding a needle in a haystack lol. Good think I got a ton of work to do before I'm ready to bolt in.

Second question, This truck had a 700r4 previously. Will the frame crossmember for the transmission work? Or will I need to find one for a 4 speed?

You could make one, it is just a L bracket attached to the framerail.



The TH350 should be able to be moved to match the new trans.

Quick question. Can an SM465 out of a 84 4x4 work in a 2wd truck? Are the output shafts different?

Some good suggestions here so far, but i have done the M22 swap in mine and I did it a little bit different than the previous suggestions. I bought a pedal assembly from a junk yard from a manual truck as was suggested by others and this is critical to getting a non clustered up setup. No fab jobs needed and the whole assmbly cost me $25 at an old school pull the part yourself type junkyard, love that stuff. The next thing I did was buy a 3/4" wilwood master cylinder from speedway motors for $49 and a stock hydraulic throw out bearing for about $100. I took the speedo cable out of the firewall and bored the hole where it was to 1". Then mounted the master cylinder there and it tucks in nicely behind the brake booster. This was done because i wanted to be near the top of the clutch pedal arm where the stroke is short and would allow a long throw of the pedal to actuate the short throw of the master cylinder. From the master cylinder i have a small briaded steel line that runs to the throwout bearing and one from the bearing bleeder fitting out of the bell housing for easy bleeds. The master cylinder rod is attached to the clucth pedal with a small heim joint also procured from speedway but available all over the place. Theres a little setup in the bearing to get your clearance right with .100" shims but mine set up on zero first try, never saw that coming. The slave cylinder and z bar setup is probably just as good but it was easier for me to source the parts this way and i like the clean look of it. The downside is that the speedo is disconnected and I use my Garmin in place of that, but with the difference in gearing both in my trans and the rear end gear swap it would have been off by a mile anyway. If you can find a donor truck or new parts, the slave cylinder and zbar route requires changing a lot less of the truck and looks more factory correct but its all in what works for you.

Different output shaft length.  You need one that didn't have a transfer case behind it.
