tail gate
« on: August 08, 2007, 09:13:57 pm »
I got the tail gate from   and what apiece of crap! I sent it back. The inner skin was sticking out beyond the out skin and the welds were all exposed. I've never seen such a piece of garbage in my life. I was going to cover it anyway with a skin and relocate the handle to the inside but c'mon!   sells a lot of crap. Anyway anyone have a skin on their tailgate and relocate their handle? I'd like to see some pix and get some more ideas on what I want to do with my gate....

Wish I could help on the skined tailgate thing but it sounds as if your doing a fleetside.
I just got done doing a step side tailgate and wish I had gone one step further by doing a hidden latch setup. Or welding it up solid.
However RE:   like you said everything they sell is crap, Whats up with that? It is all Japonese or Thaiwanese junk. I bought several hundread dollers worth of stuff for my recreation and as time would come to use it, it either would not fit right, or at all. Or it was such low quality that I would not even put it on. I returned a lot of it but now as time has gone on I find my self opening boxs and finding more stuff I bought. When I go to use it, its all just junk.
Examples; The Euro crystal cut headlights. Crap, dont fit right, have to modify your pigtails or buy theirs. The factory ring that hold in the light is too big and the light wants to fall into the bucket.
The chrome plated bulbs they sell for the turn signals so they dont show up yellow under your clear lens, again garbage, they are so dim you can barely even tell they are on.
Peep mirrors, forget it they do not fit on a 76 C-10 for nothing, if you did mess up you door and crush it enough to get the clamp bracket on then you would find that no matter what you could not position them where you can see out of them. RANT OVER (got tired)
However I do keep a catalog around for the exploded views and to aid in remembering how its supposed to look.

That reminds me of this 76 stepside 2wd I saw for sale near me a while back. It looked to me like someone cut the center panel out of the tailgate and welded in a panel that had the raised CHEVROLET in it. The welds were poopy and uneven, he must have welded nonstop because i could see where it got hot and warped up, and to top it all off, the welds werent even smoothed at all. It was just painted over.

I've purchased at least 10 aftermarket tailgates and they were all mint with the exception of this   one. They must really buy bottom of the barrel stuff

Do you sell the stainless tailgate band?   I think wants like $400+ for theirs.

I usually get mine from Keystone and they've all been perfect. The only reason I used   was because that's where I ordered the bedfloor and sides from too for my short bed conversion. Unfortunately when it arrived the floor was something you couldn't sell for $50 bucks it was so banged up so I had to send that back too. I'll make them keep sending me floors til they get it right but if the next tailgate is a pos I'll just get another Keystone/veng gate.

Sounds SOOOO much like  .
My last order was 2 tail light lenses. A left and right,,,,,,,, I get them both in good shape,, But you would think if some one is getting " a set" of tail lights that you would send a set from the same manufacture? NOPE! I got 2 different tail light from 2 differ. manufacturers. And yes they looked different from each other.

**My nightmare and just venting. Makes me made to see Company's do stupid crap like that and Ive been seeing other people having same issues with   too.

Sorry to bring this post up again but I didn't want to start another...

I've looked in the catalog and I can't find tailgates Chris. Have you added them yet?

Thanks again.

Also about how much to ship way up here to Ellenburg, WA?
