Major rust issues
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:42:59 am »
Hey guys, got some major rust on an 85 k10 i just picked up.  Front/rear fenders, wheel wells, bed all have some rust on it completely through the body (holes).  Frame has some surface rust but nothing major that would be an issue.  Guy i picked it up off said my best bet would be to pick up "skins" for it, he said like the outside of the bed fender just bolts in and i can pick up a new one and bolt it on.  Same with some other parts to?  What parts does the include?  Ie. what parts on cab and bed?  Also, whats the best way to clean up surface rust on the frame and undercarriage?  Thanks guys.

How bad it the rust.  Basically the whole front sheet metal can be unbolted and replaced.  The Bed is another story, it must be seperated and put back together short of the front panel and the tailgate.  Doors can be replaced, but the cab will have to have the rust cut out and welded back in for the best repair.

Sandblasting it the easiest way to clean up surface rust if you want it gone.  If it is scaly, it may be worse than it seems.
