wireing issues, im lost........ HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my gauge lights don't work but my heater, 4x4, dummie, and Hurst shifter lights do... but when i turn the dimmer up to get those ones on the gas gauge stops working on either tank (goes to just past empty).    and my turn single and high beam indicator lights don't work either...  it a 81-86 model truck (its suppose to have 4 headlights but someone put a 75 front clip on it with 2 lights), 4x4, short box, thats suppose to have a/c - but someone hacked it out, and twin tanks. if any more info on the the truck is needed please post and i will put it up. otherwise please help!!! like i said I'm lost.

Check the harness that plugs into the back of the guage cluster. Reach up and make sure its plugged in tight.
Check for the ground wire that screws to the parking brake bracket is not broken.

wow. Your're going to have your work cut out for ya trying to figure out what the hacking did. Getting a Haynes manual for a wiring schematic should help a lot.. Like Pugsy says- check for a bad ground. The're typically black in color.

well on this truck alot of the grounds are red some one put in door poppers extra gauges extra lights ect... there is a bundle of wires the size of a nerf football tucked in there i have a manual already checked the plug replaced the head ligth swicth and knob checked the fuses ect... like i said im way lost...

Did you just buy this truck or have you been driving it and this is a problem that just occurred?
Have you pulled the instrument cluster out and checked the circuit board on the back of it?

i did buy the truck with this problem and i have pulled out the cluster and found nothing any other ideas???

I would check to see if you are getting power to any of the points that you are having problems with.

Sounds like you have to lose the football sized bundle of wires first and try to get your wiring back to stock condition.

After that start rewiring all your add on stuff such as door poppers...lights...etc...

OK i got every thing to work... but my high beam indicator light stays on no matter what any ideas???

That is just a bulb that gets power at the time the high beams get power.  Is high/low beams working?  Check the wire going to the cluster to see if it has power all the time.
