My Wife's Hot Rod

New Guy on here, Just wanted to tell you about my project, it started out as a '86 GMC with a 4.3v6. Over the last two years we have lowered it some, swapped in a 455Olds engine,700r4 transmission,12 bolt posi rear. We fixed up the interior & did some bodywork, dropped the body a little, put a fuel cell in the back. It goes down the highway nice & has run a best of 12.44@109 in street trim. We got a ways to go!

Very nice. I like the way ya'll did that fuel door in the bed. 12.4@109....that's good. What all is done to that 455? I was close to dropping a Buick 455/TH400 combo in my truck before I did the 6.0 swap. I think I may have to try that 455 combo in one of these trucks.

Welcome to the Forums! Wifey has Great Taste in both Trucks and Engines
Lucky Man indeed
Team I got to say it's a Wild Combo for sure! A Longtime Neighbor of my Grandfather has/had an Old '82 K-30 Wrecker that he installed a Balanced & Blue Printed '68 Olds 455 when I was little, and that thing was Crazy(He wound up rebuilding the first motor twice, and building a second one that he did the same with
)... He also had a '77/78 K-20 that he built a Modified Olds Diesel Converted back to Gas, that he used to Race locally it (He would run it slightly lowered in 4wd like an early Fullsize Syclone)

Nice looking truck and 12.4@109mph is not bad for a big body truck.

Thanks guys for the welcome & kind words. To answer the question about the motor. It really isn't much, stock:bore & stroke, pistons & rods, 238-550 hyd. flat tappet cam, home ported heads, roller rockers, home brewed Q-jet & Cutlass headers. Right now it has a USED S-10 Blazer torque converter & the 700r4 was built with some good parts by a good friend (I helped,er.. got in the way) that owns a tranny shop. Before spring I'm going to change the converter to a custom 9 1/2" lock-up unit & installing a 3.70 gear 9" rear with disc brakes. And Yes, my wife does get involved, holding/oiling the bearings, rod caps, watching the dial indicator while degreeing the cam, powerwashing the frame of the truck, helping installing the interior,ect.ect. She is a good one! I've only cut the grass like two times in 20 years. She has gone on several Hot Rod Power Tours with me & my brother. The cars in my wedding were my '73 V8 Vega (I still have) my friends '68 Mustang & '69 Firebird, so yes, shes one of a kind. Before you ask she has two sisters, they are married & have ZERO

I like what you did with the fuel door, very slick.

Rsbad, The filler door is a old box style S-10, I cut out an inch around the door on the side panel & trimmed it down to fit, then welded the bed piece to the door. I'm sure there are many other lids that would work well, I needed a relatively big one to get the fuelcell cap out through & I had the old junk Blazer. Thanks, Lorne
