The truck was purchased new by Alabama Power, It had a 250 six banger with the 350 torbo tranny. That is the way it was when My brother got it. My brother used it to pull a big pressure washer till the 6-banger puked out on the way to a job one day. We had an old 350 core at the house and he got a Autozone reman motor and put in it.
(Fast Forward to now)

350 4-bolt main
bored 40 over,
Extreme energy cam (don't ask specs, I have no idea)
 Michigan 77 bearings,
Erson 1.5 rollers,
Eddelbrock Performer RPM intake,
Holley 750 dual line
041 heads (I think)
screw in studs and guide plates
High volume oil pump
And a "Sneaky Pete" hiding somewhere just for "Gits-n-Shiggles"
O-Yeah, and one lifter trying to collapse on #6 (#6 is always a problem on every motor I have ever had)

Torbo 350 tranny with a "stock stall" converter, (Nothing like a 2200-2800 stall)
B&M shift kit
TCI prepped valve body........

Factory 12-bolt runnin peg-leg (I hate a 1-wheel wonder)

Needless to say, this truck has never met a gas station it didn't like.

Cool!  I'm not the only one sporting the dash skeleton.  I painted mine a semi-gloss black after I stripped away the padding.

I had the dash out last week and put foil tape on the inside to cover all the holes, now I'm thinking I might put a coat of herculiner on top and bottom to give it back some of it's rigidity (and maybe have a few people scratch their heads) If I do that the dash will then be black.....Probably pull the guage bezel back out , strip it of everything, then paint it red and put it back in.

Just playing with ideas.

I didn't do mine right.  I just used a wire brush to strip it, then I painted it with black primer(it had already started to rust at that point).  Then I painted over that with black engine paint(which is chipping now).    I'm gonna sandblast it soon and probably do like you and put herculiner on it.

I haven't done mine in herculiner yet. Just something I was thinking of doing to cut down on noise and rattles.

I stripped mine in a similar way to what you did. I used some sorta stripping wheel in the power drill I have. There is still some of the padding residue left on mine, it is chipping as well. That is why I was thinking of giving it the herculiner treatment.

herculiner is crappy. Or maybe it was me, but I had bad luck with it scratching off after like 4 months or so.....

I had Herculiner in a 99 that was better looking after 2 years than some of the Rhino lined truck. The key thing is surface prep. It took me 2 hours to scuff the bed before I put it in.

Its also about how you put it on, you need to dab the first coat on with a paint brush..not brush it on, but dab the whole thing. Then, lay it on thick with a bedliner material roller, or spray it on with an undercoater gun...a friend of mine herculined the entire exterior of his truck with ordinary house paint rollers..Its holding up fine after a year and a half..Herculiner is good stuff, some of the best you can buy and do it yourself. Plasticote works ok, but it has to be put on THICK to keep it from peeling. My plasticote bedliner in my bed wasn't on quite thick enough..when I set an engine in it, it shifted a few times and scratched a few spots away..The teeth on our biggest chainsaw also scratched a few spots off.

I could not stand it any more, bought more herculiner yesterday and finished up most of the floor.
I'm really starting to get the hang of it. Warewolf is right, dab it on (sponge broshes would probably be better)

Pics to come later

Flatbroke, You get an A for creativity from me and I give you credit for doing it yourself, being original and keeping it cheap. I like the whole 'rat rod' thing, focus on whats important and let it all hang out! Your truck could be perfect with the best of everything and someone would find something wrong with it. It is definitely different!
